Una is a Fiber Artist from Claremont California, who teaches and creates wearable accessories out of her home studio. Although she grew up in a craft supply store, she got her felting start at a meeting of New England Feltmakers Guild in August 2004.

Una’s inspiration to start felting was necessity. She has big feet; shoes have always been a problem. She took a simple shoe making class and had a piece of her knitted felt with her. Una’s instructor suggested that she incorporate her felt into the shoes. Next thing she knew she couldn’t felt fast enough and was forced to explore the world of felting more in depth. Wet felting, needle felting, Nuno felt, color, texture, strength, flexibility, soft, hard. Oh the possibilities form and function uniting into the perfect craft!

Combining materials is the challenge for Una; she loves “figuring it all out”. From raw wool to sewing the last stitch to making it better the next time. She’s glad her necessity has taken her where she needs to go.

Una’s newest fiber experiments include explorations of dyeing and Rug Punching seeing where the color and texture brings life to design.

Una’s work has been exhibited nationally and she sells at Craft shows around the country.

Una was seen on HGTV’s That’s Clever in 2009 ~ making a pair of shoes!
