Dear Friends and Family of Estelle Carlson,

I know that when we think of Estelle we all feel as though we have been touched by a precious gem. Estelle was a most generous artist who shared her talents and processes as well as herself through her teaching. She was passionate about her travels, her art and her teaching. She loved people and she loved life. I hope that you will join the Designing Weavers in this “CELEBRATION OF ESTELLE’S LIFE” and her love of the fiber arts by creating a Scholarship Fund. The Fiber Trust of the Handweavers Guild of America is the best means of accomplishing this. Estelle was a member of the Fiber Trust which offers scholarships to perpetuate the Fiber Arts. All donations will be accepted. Listed below are the possibilities open to us. I am hopeful that we will be able to fund at least one “Estelle Carlson Memorial Assistantship” in a workshop subject that would have been of special interest to Estelle. I will see that the recipient receives detailed information about our friend and teacher.

Donations may be sent to:

PLEASE MAKE THE CHECK: HGA FIBER TRUST Note in the Memo: your name in memory of Estelle Carlson

The following is a note that I received from Barbara Seeler, Chairperson of the Fiber Trust:

Suggestions for ways to honor Estelle Carlson and her love of the fiber arts.

1) Anyone donating funds to HGA would be treated as any other donor, i.e. >$100 they would be listed in SS&D as a Fiber Trust member, <$100 they would be listed in the December issue. If the donation specified “donor name in memory of Estelle Carlson" then the listing in SS&D(s) would be as requested.

2) If funds collected in Estelle's memory are between $500 - $900, funds could be used for prize monies and support of one of the exhibits, perhaps the fashion show or maybe yardage. The exhibit support would be acknowledged as "in memory of Estelle Carlson".

3) If funds were $900 +, an assistantship for Convergence 06 workshop could be awarded. This support would of course also be acknowledged in print as the "Estelle Carlson memorial assistantship".

4) For funds in the $10,000 range, a sustaining annual grant or scholarship could be arranged.

Thank you for considering these ideas. Barbara
